How to use nicotine pouches
A simple, no-nonsense guide for existing adult nicotine users trying pouches for the first time. Takes 2 minutes to read.
Step 1 — Pick one pouch
Open the can. Take out one pouch. First-timers should never use two at once, no matter what strength — it's how people end up nauseous.
Step 2 — Place it under your upper lip
Tuck the pouch between your upper lip and gum, off to one side. Some people prefer the lower lip — both work, upper is easier while eating and talking.
Step 3 — Wait for the tingle
Within 1–3 minutes you'll feel a mild tingle. That's the nicotine + flavour releasing. Don't chew it. Don't swallow it. A little saliva is normal — you can spit gently or just swallow it as you would normally.
Step 4 — Leave it in 30–60 minutes
Most pouches deliver over about 30–60 minutes. Strong pouches (14mg+) tend to last longer. You can move it around occasionally; you can take it out any time.
Step 5 — Dispose responsibly
Take the pouch out and put it in a bin. Many cans have a compartment on the lid for used pouches. Never flush them — the pouch material doesn't break down.
Which strength should I start with?
- Light smokers / new to nicotine pouches: ZYN 3mg or CLEW 10mg.
- Regular smoker switching over: ZYN 6mg or CLEW 15mg.
- Heavy smoker / experienced pouch user: CLEW 20mg or VELO (14mg+).

Common mistakes to avoid
- Chewing the pouch. It's not gum. Chewing releases everything too fast and burns your gum.
- Starting too strong. A 20mg pouch on your first day is a bad time. Start low, move up.
- Using more than one at a time. Doubling up multiplies nicotine — dizziness, nausea, hiccups. Wait a good hour between pouches.
- Sleeping with one in. Take it out before bed — no one needs to swallow it in their sleep.
Is it discreet?
Yes. Pouches are slim, white, and sit under the lip — most people won't notice unless they're looking. No smoke, no smell, no spitting (with dry-format pouches like ZYN especially).
